I offer open edition prints for every photograph. For a long
time I believed limited edition printing was the right way to sell
prints. I now realize that digital photography is unlike
other forms of art: you will always have the digital file, and
therefore, always have the option of printing more. With painting and film photography,
for example, it is demanding work to create a line of limited edition prints. With
digital photography, exact replicas will always be effortless.
Every
print is shipped with a signed certificate of authenticity and
includes the specific print number of the image. All prints sold are
then added to a registry, tracking how many prints of each image have been produced.
Mounting
Options
Single
Weight Matboard
- Mounting your print to a matboard gives it extra support, thus
lengthening the expected lifespan. I strongly recommend spending a
little more to take advantage of this option. Matting and framing
will be necessary to showcase the print.
Canvas
on Matboard
- This mounting option is used frequently to display work in art
galleries. The image is printed on canvas and bonded to matboard to
increase support, thus lengthening the expected lifespan. Matting and framing will be necessary to showcase
the print.
Gallery
Wrap – Gallery
wraps are quickly becoming the most popular way to showcase prints.
Canvas is stretched taught over a wooden frame to create stunning
works that are ready to be displayed, no matting or framing necessary. These prints are more expensive than their traditional
counterparts, but the costs associated with matting and framing traditional photographs can make these gallery wraps a great investment.
Unmounted
Print
- I also offer unmounted prints. Image quality remains exactly the
same, but the print will lack the support found in the other three
options. Matting and framing will be necessary to showcase the print.
Paper
Fujicolor
Crystal Archive Professional Paper (via Mpix)
is used for all traditional printing. With a rated archival
value of 100 years in home display settings and 200 years in dark
storage, this is the most trusted paper in the industry. It renders
near perfect color and saturation when compared to the digital
negative.
Gallery wrap options are printed on professional 20.5
mil poly/cotton canvas at Artistic
Photo Canvas
in Venice, Florida. They specialize in canvas and panoramic printing,
and their quality control is second-to-none. Every print is seen
through printing, construction and shipment by a dedicated
professional.
Inks
The printing process at Mpix doesn't
actually involve the use of inks. Their aforementioned papers are
coated with silver halide and exposed to RGB lasers, a process that
is as archival (and beautiful) as they come.
Epson
Ultrachrome HDR Ink
is used for canvas printing. Epson inks set the standard by which
others professional inks are measured. With two additional cartridge
colors (green and orange), prints made with these inks are nothing
short of amazing. Colors are vivid and accurate, and canvas images
printed with this ink will control conversation in any room.
Matting
and Framing
Due
to the near infinite selection of mats and frames available today
(not to mention personal preferences of the buyer) I offer traditional prints mat-less and frame-less. I suggest white or black mats within black
frames, though this is simply a personal
preference. If you don't feel comfortable matting and framing an
image, please contact me. I'd be happy to do this work for you if it
would make you more comfortable.
